If you place an order over the phone as the salesperson if the part they are selling is "Insurance Quality" or not. If it has dings on it or needs any body work (If its a body part of course) For mechanical parts like engines, transmissions, axles, starter motors, ECU's the main thing you want to know are the miles and ask for a CarFax guarantee of the odometer reading. Its helpful if you can go down and see the donor car as well as you can find out a bunch about a part by simply looking at the car it came from. If the ceiling is wet and moldy and they say it did not have any flooding you might say 'mmmmmmm, I dont think so.

At any rate finding a part in an Ohio Junk Yard or Salvage Yard (By the way, the same thing.. just people call them different things! "Automotive Recycling Facility" seems to be the latest term being used to proerly represent this industry) is a great way to find a nice OEM part at a fraction of the costs of a new one from the dealer without having to buy a sub-standard quality aftermarket product.
